Despite the fact that we are in the era of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), we don’t hear much about the next life on newscast, on television or radio, yet we will spend all eternity in the next life. Eternity is an unending ever-continuing time which will either be spent in Heaven or hell. The account of the rich man and Lazarus given in Luke 16vs19-31 shows that life doesn’t end here and that physical death is not the final life experience. The choice as to where a person will spend eternity is with the person. God allows man on earth to decide whether he wants to spend his eternity with God in Heaven or live in hell forever with satan – there is no neutral place. People who never think of the shortness of their days are likely to forget the importance of preparing for eternity. The Bible refers to life as a grass which grows for a short time, then withers – 1 Peter 1vs24; “For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls”.
Jesus said, in My Father’s house are many mansion: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there years maybe also – John 14vs2-3.
Heaven is not just a Place anybody can get to with mere desire. It is only for people who made preparation. In order to get there, the Bible says we must be born again – John 3vs3; “Jesus replied, ‘I assure you: Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God’”. To be born again, you need to confess your sins and never return to them again – Proverbs 28vs13; “The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy”. As Heaven and hell are the twins eternal destination from which we must choose only one, then it is wise to choose eternal life in Heaven and avoid hell. Those who allows other people wrong decisions to influence their own choice are not wise. It is worth remembering that all of us are just a heartbeat away from eternity. Eternity to the godly is a day that has no sunset, eternity to the wicked is a night that has no sunrise. It has been said that this life is a dressing room for eternity. Life on earth is a preparation for eternity. There is an eternity for which we are to prepare and the time to do so is not after life is over but before, which is now. WHERE WILL YOU SPEND ETERNITY? Be reminded again that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life . . . – John 14vs6.
