Pride is a state of feeling more important or valuable or better than others. If one is full of pride, it makes such person thinks that there is none better or greater than he or she is. A proud person feels he is above mistakes and errors which makes him not to heed to corrections – Proverbs 16vs18; “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall”. This simply means that proud and arrogant people are prone to destruction because of their absurd nature.
People who are too proud feel that they can do it all, just by their own strength. They believe that their achievements, success, good health and so on are all of their own doings, such set of people annoy and irritate God with their mentality and a day is coming when He will humble them by force since they refuse to humble themselves. It is better for you to humble yourself before the Lord than for Him to humble you by Himself, because if he does so, it may cause you great inconveniences. This is exactly what happened to king Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar was a rich and powerful king who was puffed up with pride because of his vast kingdom, power and achievements. God warned him to humble himself before Him and mend his ways but he refused – Daniel 4vs1-27, hence God decided to humble king Nebuchadnezzar by Himself turning him into a wild beast that ate grasses (that’s his mind was taken from him and the mind of an animal was given to him instead). He remained like this for a while and after he regained his understanding, he acknowledged the God not himself rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He wills – Daniel 4vs28-37.
Pride was also the sin of Lucifer. It was pride that caused him of his position in Heaven. He became too full of himself because of his unique qualities and position, hence he was thrown down from Heaven – Ezekiel 28vs15-17. It was through pride the devil became the devil. Pride leads to every other vice, it is the complete anti-God state of mind. No wonder God detests pride and oppose the proud – James 4vs6; “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. It is pride that leads men to believe we can live without God. Just as God took away everything that made king Nebuchadnezzar proud, He could also take away those talents and abilities you brag on if you don’t remain humble to Him. Acknowledge God now, as the Supreme Being, Ruler and Owner of all. Humble yourself before the Lord and He will exalt you – James 4vs10; “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you”. be reminded that without God, we are helpless. We should never boast about what we have accomplished or achieved outside God. Be reminded again that every form of pride will drag you to hell alongside the king of pride, the devil himself. Be reminded again that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life . . . – John 14vs6.
