Nadab and Abihu were priests commissioned to offer incense onto the Lord, the office of which was sacred and not common to all. These two sons of Aaron were licensed and approved to carry out this dangerous sacred task (the office commissioned to them). Their deeds of the office actually led to their untimely death because they went against the manner and rules of the office. They were only to offer holy fire as such that God commanded but they laid unholy fire before the Lord such as He had not commanded them, then fire came forth from the presence of the Lord and devoured them and they died before the Lord – Leviticus 10vs1-3; “Then Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, each took his fire pan and put fire in it, set incense on it, and presented strange fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them to do. So fire went out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them so that they died before the LORD. Moses then said to Aaron, ‘This is what the LORD spoke: ‘Among the ones close to me I will show myself holy, and in the presence of all the people I will be honored.’’ So Aaron kept silent.”
Despite the fact you are approved of God, given one certain mandate or the other, licensed to so something on His behalf or the other, there is need for you to know those things you are to do and those you are not meant to do because assumption and ignorance may not save you from your carelessness.
It is good to desire to work for God but better to desire to know what exactly He wants you to do, how to do it, when to do it and also what He doesn’t want you to do.
To everyone in various offices as messengers of the living God through Christ Jesus, please don’t be careless to do what God has not commanded you to do so that you don’t have the same experience as the two sons of Aaron, the priests of God – John 14vs6.
