It is very important to bear in mind that Jesus Christ bore the penalty of our sin. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes, we are healed – Isaiah 53vs5; “But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds”. The Father laid on Him the iniquity of us all as He made Him to be sin, but our understanding is greatly impoverished if we do not take account of pervasive witness that He bore sins. The Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all. His soul was made an offering for sin, He was made sin. We often miss something central to the whole doctrine of His sin-bearing if we restrict out thought to the penalty of sin. When you are convicted of sin, what looms highest in your apprehension and what is deepest in your conviction? It is not sin’s penalty. It is sin in all its gravity as offence that Jesus Christ bore. He did no sin as Apostle Peter said – He came into the closest relation to sin possible without becoming sinful and He made an end of sin. This is why we may take the cup of blessing, His was the cup of curse, ours of benediction, His of damnation, ours of salvation, His of sins to be expiated, ours or remission, His of bitterness, ours of sweetness, His of wrath out poured, ours of propitiation, His of abandonment to make us have an everlasting fellowship with the Father. Thank You Jesus Christ for bearing our sins – John 14vs6.
