Hypocrisy is a character of pretense. Hypocrite is one who pretends to be what he’s not especially in the area of religion and morality. It is an outward behavior differently from what lies within a man that is insincerity or lack of transparency.
Hypocrisy is a sin and it is an act that displeases God. It is not proper to openly rebuke another when yourself is guilty of the same offense or wrong which is sin – Matthew 7vs5; “You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”.
Who is a hypocrite?
If you accused someone of being a prostitute and you are guilty of the sin of fornication, you are a hypocrite. If you are a Pastor and openly rebuking your member for committing adultery in the congregation and you are full of the sin of pride, you are a hypocrite. If you are accusing one publicly of being guilty of witchcraft and are guilty of the sin of lying to others, you are a hypocrite.
When you receive praises and compliments outwardly with joy from men and your heart thinks differently evil unknowingly to them, makes you a hypocrite. The honor and praises you show forth to God in His presence before men with your lips but your heart is far from Him makes you a hypocrite and in vain you worship Him – Matthew 15vs8-9; “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men”.
Brethren, you are an approved judge when you are pure and free from anything that can’t be used against you – Romans 2vs3; “And do you think, whoever you are, when you judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape God’s judgment?”
Hypocrisy is not a character of God but a trait of the devil and if persisted in you, then you are endangering your soul. The opposite of hypocrisy that pleases God are sincerity, open minded, transparency and honesty. Be as you are in Jesus Christ not as you are not. If you truly value your salvation, don’t be a hypocrite but instead make effort to always reflect the image and nature of Jesus Christ in you at all times – John 14vs6.
