2 Timothy 4vs5 says; “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry”. There is no way one can survive God’s purpose without suffering, which is a part of running the Christian race at one point in time or the other – 1 Thessalonians 3vs4; “For when we were with you, we kept telling you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction, just as it has come to pass, and just as you know”. To some persons who think that because they are Christians, suffering for the sake of righteousness won’t be required of them are really mistaken. Jesus Christ Himself suffered, the 12 apostles were not excluded, the prophets of old suffered for the sake of righteousness, then who are you as a follower of Jesus Christ to run away from such heritage.
Suffering is mandatory for Christians who long always for righteousness. “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” – 2 Timothy 3vs12.
Please, do not misunderstand me. The suffering I am talking about is such for the sake of righteousness and only those that suffer for this sake are suffering for the right course – “But let none of you suffer as a murderer or thief or criminal or as a troublemaker. But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear such a name” – 1 Peter 4vs15-16. Also, 1 Peter 4vs19 says; “Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good”. Be reminded that after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. Jesus Christ Himself encourages us in this manner that blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven – Matthew 5vs10. I guess my message is clear to you now sir/ma. Don’t rebuke the suffering you undergo for the sake of Christ and compromise your confession in Christ Jesus. Please, remain steadfast in faith and be reminded again that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life . . . – John 14vs6.
