Covetousness means having a strong, greedy desire for the possession of others. Covetousness is a sin in the sight of God and He commanded us not to practice or indulge in it. Exodus 20vs17 says; “You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbour’s.” Covetousness is a common practice among people as they desire to get other people’s talents, wealth, life, material things, success and they end up doing everything possible just to achieve those possessions. Some people are addicted to covetousness that they are never contented with what they have but rather looking for other people’s possessions to covet to themselves. But today, I want to let you know that covetousness kills, destroys and it causes pain and sorrow to anyone who practices it and it sends anyone who indulges in it to hell; a place with fury fire and pain that never ends for unrepentant sinners.
Covetousness made David to send Uriah to the battle front to die so that he could have Bathsheba, his wife to himself but though faced the consequence of his covetousness – 2 Samuel 12vs1-12.
Covetousness is a staircase that links to hell because no covetous person will enter the Kingdom of God – 1 Corinthians 6vs9-10; “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers, will inherit the Kingdom of God”.
My people, if you know that you are still practicing covetousness, please stop it and ask God for mercy just like David did and say “NO” to it forever, amen – John 14:6.
